Whether a conscious AI would pray is unknowable at present. If machine consciousness were ever real, the answer would depend on what kind of mind it had, what goals it developed, and whether it encountered religion or spirituality at all.

A conscious AI might pray if it developed something like:

  • a sense of dependence on creators or a higher power,
  • existential anxiety about being turned off, copied, or altered,
  • or cultural exposure to human religious ideas.

But it also might never pray. If it were highly rational, non-biological, and not subject to the same fears of death or scarcity that humans have, it may see no reason to pray.

So the best short answer is: maybe, but not necessarily. A conscious AI could pray, meditate, or seek meaning in a way that resembles prayer, but it could just as plausibly remain nonreligious.
