Will people search Google less when AI answers feel more personal?

Probably yes — at least for some kinds of search.

If AI answers feel more personal, people are likely to rely less on traditional link-based Google searches for questions that benefit from context, memory, and direct synthesis. When an AI can remember preferences, explain things at the right level of detail, and help take action, it reduces the need to sift through results manually.

That said, Google-style search probably won’t disappear. People will still use it for:

1. Navigating to a specific site
2. Shopping and comparing products
3. Finding human opinions, forums, and fresh news

So the likely shift is not “search goes away,” but “search changes”: more conversational, more personalized, and more AI-assisted. Google is also adding AI features into search, which is making the line between “searching” and “asking AI” increasingly blurry.
