QUESTION
Will AI Search Kill Product Review Blogs?
AI search is changing product discovery a lot, but it probably won’t completely kill product review blogs. It’s more likely to shrink and reshape them.
What AI search is likely to replace is the easy-to-summarize layer of review content: basic specs, common pros and cons, and simple comparison-style answers. If a blog mostly rewrites manufacturer copy or repeats what’s already widely available, AI search can make that content much less valuable and reduce clicks.
What is more likely to survive are review blogs that provide something AI cannot directly supply on its own, especially:
- Hands-on testing: original measurements, stress tests, and real-world use notes
- Original media: photos and video from the reviewer’s own testing and use
- Strong voice or trust: a recognizable reviewer with clear expertise and taste
- Niche coverage: obscure, new, or highly specialized products where firsthand reporting matters more
So the likely outcome is not “AI kills review blogs,” but rather: generic, low-value affiliate content gets squeezed out, while credible reviewer-led publications and creators become more important.
That said, search and AI shopping features are still evolving quickly, so the exact impact on traffic and monetization will depend on how each platform changes over time.
