Most often, a TV turning on by itself is caused by a setting, a connected device, or a remote issue—not a major failure.

Check these first:

  • HDMI-CEC: A streaming box, console, or soundbar may be waking the TV. Turn off HDMI-CEC in TV settings. It may be called Anynet+, Bravia Sync, or Simplink.
  • Smart home / network wake: Alexa, Google Home, AirPlay, Wake on LAN, or “power on with mobile” can trigger it. Try disconnecting Wi‑Fi for a day or two.
  • Timers / schedules: Look for power-on timers, alarms, or scheduled recordings in Settings > System/Time/Timer/Eco.
  • Remote problems: A stuck power button, weak batteries, or another remote can send a power signal. Remove the batteries overnight to test.
  • Updates / glitches: Check for firmware updates and restart the TV.
  • Power cycle: Unplug the TV for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in.

If it still happens after those checks, the power button, remote sensor, or another hardware part may be faulty.
