Your iPhone is usually lowering volume for one of a few reasons: a safety setting, Face ID attention detection, or a stuck volume button.
Try these fixes:
- Attention Aware Features: If volume drops when you look at the screen, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and turn off Attention Aware Features.
- Headphone Safety: If it happens with headphones, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety and turn off Reduce Loud Sounds.
- Change with Buttons: If the ringer keeps changing, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics and turn off Change with Buttons.
- Check the hardware: Remove the case and clean around the volume buttons. A stuck or pressed button can make the volume go down.
- Reset settings: If it still happens, use Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings. This won’t delete your data, but it will reset Wi‑Fi and other preferences.
Most of the time, it’s one of the first three settings.
