A cat staring at a wall is often just reacting to things you can’t notice, like faint sounds, vibrations, tiny insects, dust, or shifting light and shadows.
More concerning causes can include:
- Senior cat confusion or cognitive decline
- Vision, blood pressure, or neurological problems
- Pain or general disorientation
Call the vet sooner if it’s new, frequent, or comes with:
- loud or unusual meowing
- acting lost or unresponsive
- getting stuck in corners
- twitching, odd grooming, or sudden agitation
- pupils staying wide in bright light
If it happens only once in a while, it may be normal. If it’s sudden or paired with other symptoms, have a vet check it out.
