Why does my cat stare at the wall?

A cat staring at a wall is often just reacting to things you can’t notice, like faint sounds, vibrations, tiny insects, dust, or shifting light and shadows.

More concerning causes can include:

• Senior cat confusion or cognitive decline
• Vision, blood pressure, or neurological problems
• Pain or general disorientation

Call the vet sooner if it’s new, frequent, or comes with:

• loud or unusual meowing
• acting lost or unresponsive
• getting stuck in corners
• twitching, odd grooming, or sudden agitation
• pupils staying wide in bright light

If it happens only once in a while, it may be normal. If it’s sudden or paired with other symptoms, have a vet check it out.
