QUESTION
Why does my Android phone keep freezing?
An Android phone usually keeps freezing because of one or more common issues: low storage, too little RAM, a problematic app, overheating, a failing battery, or outdated software.
Here’s a practical way to narrow it down:
1) Force-restart the phone
If the screen is frozen, try a force restart. On many Android phones this is done by holding Power + Volume Down for about 10–15 seconds, but the exact buttons can vary by manufacturer.
2) Free up storage
If storage is nearly full, Android can slow down or freeze. A good rule of thumb is to keep at least about 10–15% of storage free if possible.
- Go to Settings > Storage (or search Storage in Settings)
- Delete unused apps, large videos, downloads, or old files
3) Test for a bad app using Safe Mode
A recently installed or updated app can cause freezing.
- Boot into Safe Mode using your phone’s power menu or key combination, depending on the device
- In Safe Mode, Android temporarily disables downloaded third-party apps
- If freezing stops in Safe Mode, a third-party app is likely the cause
- Uninstall recently added or updated apps one by one
4) Update Android and your apps
Bugs in the system or apps can cause instability.
- Check Settings > System > Software update
- Update apps in the Google Play Store
5) Restart after updates or uninstalling apps
A simple restart can clear temporary issues after updates, app changes, or long uptime.
6) If it still freezes
It may be a deeper issue such as overheating, storage corruption, a failing battery, or hardware trouble. Back up your data and consider a service check.
