Why does my cat run into the bathroom after I shower?

Your cat may run into the bathroom after you shower for a few common reasons:

• Your scent changed: Showering removes or masks your usual smell with soap and shampoo, and cats use scent heavily to recognize people and places. Your cat may rub on you or the bathroom to mix their scent back in.
• They like the water or moisture: Some cats are drawn to fresh droplets, condensation, or the movement/noise of water more than water in a bowl.
• It’s warm and steamy: A bathroom after a hot shower can feel cozy and interesting to a cat.
• The door was closed: Many cats simply don’t like being shut out and will rush in to investigate once the door opens.
• Routine and attention: If shower time is predictable, your cat may learn that the door opening means you’re available again, or that something interesting usually follows.

If your cat is licking surfaces, make sure there aren’t any harsh cleaners, bath oils, or heavily fragranced products left behind.
