Should I buy a used Toyota Sienna or Kia Carnival for one baby and future kids?

For a family starting with one baby and planning for more, both the Toyota Sienna and Kia Carnival are strong choices, but they fit different priorities.

If your priority is long-term fuel savings and a strong reliability reputation, the Toyota Sienna (2021 or newer) is usually the safer bet. The hybrid Sienna is rated at about 36 MPG combined, which can add up a lot over years of family driving. It also offers available all-wheel drive on many trims, which may matter if you deal with snow, rain, or unpaved roads.

If your priority is more comfort, a quieter cabin, and better value at the purchase price, the Kia Carnival (2022 or newer) is a very appealing choice. Most used examples are front-wheel drive only, and it’s generally the more affordable of the two on the used market, while still offering about 21 MPG combined in typical V6 form.

My practical take: if you expect to keep the van for a long time and want the lowest running costs, pick the Sienna. If you want to spend less upfront and care more about cabin feel and features, pick the Carnival.

One important caveat: used Sienna prices can be very high, sometimes close to original MSRP depending on trim, mileage, and location, so compare exact listings rather than assuming the Sienna will be the cheaper buy.
