Should I buy a used Olympus E-M10 Mark III or Canon R50?

Choosing between a used Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III and a Canon EOS R50 mostly comes down to what matters more to you: newer autofocus and a newer platform, or in-body stabilization and lower used-body cost.

Buy the Canon EOS R50 if:
You want the stronger all-around camera for subjects that move, like kids, pets, and everyday shooting. The R50 has a 24MP APS-C sensor and much newer autofocus than the Olympus, which makes it easier to use and better at tracking motion. It’s also a better choice if you care about video or vlogging.

Buy a used Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III if:
You want to spend less and value stabilization and portability. It has sensor-shift stabilization (IBIS), which helps when handholding in lower light or at slower shutter speeds. It’s also a compact body that can be a good value on the used market.

Lens ecosystem note:
Micro Four Thirds has a very large used lens market with lots of affordable options. Canon RF-mount APS-C lens choices are still more limited, although Canon’s lens ecosystem overall is broad.

My pick:

• Canon R50 if you want the safer long-term buy, better autofocus, and a newer overall system.
• Used Olympus E-M10 Mark III if budget matters most and you want a smaller camera with IBIS and access to lots of inexpensive used lenses.
