QUESTION
Should you buy OLED if you only watch YouTube?
If you only watch YouTube, an OLED is usually not the best-value choice — but it can still be a great choice if you care most about picture quality.
Why OLED may be overkill for YouTube:
- Burn-in is the main concern. YouTube has static UI elements like logos, buttons, and progress bars, and OLEDs can wear unevenly over time if a lot of static content is shown.
- A lot of YouTube video quality depends more on the source than the display. Some uploads are low bitrate or heavily compressed, so the improvement from OLED may be modest unless you watch high-quality 4K/HDR content.
- If you watch in a bright room, a brighter TV may be the better fit.
When OLED still makes sense:
- If you watch in a dim room and care about deep blacks, contrast, and excellent HDR performance, OLED can look fantastic for YouTube too.
Bottom line: for YouTube-only viewing, I’d usually lean toward a good Mini-LED/LCD unless you specifically want OLED’s picture quality and are comfortable with the burn-in tradeoff.
