Should I buy a nursery camera or audio monitor?

Choosing between a nursery camera and an audio monitor mostly comes down to how much visual reassurance you want versus how simple and low-distraction you want the setup to be.

A nursery camera is often the better choice if you want more peace of mind. It lets you quickly check whether your baby is just fussing, awake, or moving around without going into the room. Many video monitors also add features like temperature readings, sleep-related alerts, and app access.

An audio monitor is often the better choice if you want something simpler and usually less distracting at night. Audio monitors are straightforward to use and can be more portable. If you choose a non-Wi‑Fi model such as a DECT monitor, it does not use your home internet connection, which can be appealing if you want to avoid internet-based security concerns.

Practical rule of thumb:

• Choose video if you think you’ll want to see what’s happening before going in.
• Choose audio if you mostly just want to hear when your baby needs you and prefer a simpler, lower-distraction option.

If you live in a small home and can already hear the baby well, audio may be enough. If you expect to check often or want the extra reassurance, a camera is usually the better buy.
