What causes pain in the lower right side of the stomach?

Pain in the lower right side of the stomach can come from several things, from minor to urgent.

Common causes: gas, constipation, muscle strain, urinary tract infection, kidney stone, IBS, Crohn’s disease, ovarian cyst, PID, or endometriosis.

Urgent causes:

• Appendicitis — often starts near the belly button and moves to the lower right side; may cause fever, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite.
• Ectopic pregnancy — in someone who could be pregnant, especially if there’s vaginal bleeding.
• Ovarian torsion or strangulated hernia — sudden, severe one-sided pain.
