Buying or waiting for a Civic Hybrid is highly worth it if you want a compact sedan or hatchback with excellent fuel economy (EPA-estimated 50 mpg city/outdoors), robust performance (200 hp), and a smoother, quieter daily drive than the standard gas-only Civic. It is especially worth waiting for a deal if you can negotiate down any dealer markups or secure competitive financing.

On the other hand, you should not wait if you need a car immediately, if local dealers are adding heavy market adjustments, or if a highly discounted gas Civic, Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Toyota Prius, or Hyundai Elantra Hybrid meets your needs at a much lower out-the-door price.

My practical recommendation: Test-drive both the Civic Hybrid and its closest competitor, the Toyota Prius or Corolla Hybrid. Get written out-the-door quotes from multiple dealers. Only pay the hybrid premium if the math makes sense for your annual mileage, local fuel costs, and how many years you plan to own the vehicle.
