Typical price guide:

  • Amazon Fire tablet: about $60–$140 new depending on screen size and generation; $25–$90 used/refurbished.
  • Cheap Samsung tablet (Galaxy Tab A / entry-level Tab): about $120–$250 new; $60–$180 used/refurbished.

What to buy: for most people, the cheap Samsung tablet is worth paying extra for because it gives you a more normal Android experience with Google Play, better app compatibility, and longer-term flexibility. A Fire tablet makes sense if your budget is tight or you mainly want streaming, Kindle reading, Prime Video, and Amazon Kids.

Quick rule: if the Samsung tablet is only $30–$60 more than a comparable Fire model, I’d usually choose Samsung. If the Fire tablet is heavily discounted and your use is mostly Amazon entertainment, it can be the better deal.

Prices move a lot by sale and storage/RAM, so check sold/completed listings before buying.
