QUESTION
Is Denver or Salt Lake City better for outdoors?
If your main priority is immediate, daily access to the mountains—especially for skiing, snowboarding, and trail running—Salt Lake City is the better choice. The Wasatch mountains rise directly out of the city, meaning world-class trails and ski resorts are often less than a 30-minute drive away.
However, if you want a larger, more vibrant metropolitan city with a deeply ingrained outdoor culture, Denver wins out. Denver offers incredible urban parks, extensive paved bike trails, and a legendary brewery scene. The trade-off is that reaching the deep Rocky Mountains and major ski resorts requires driving on the I-70 corridor, which is notorious for heavy weekend traffic and can take 1.5 to 3 hours.
