QUESTION
Should I buy a bottle warmer or use warm water?
You do not need a bottle warmer, but it can be very convenient if you regularly want bottles warmed quickly, especially during nighttime feeds.
The direct comparison
- Choose a bottle warmer if speed and convenience matter most. Dedicated warmers can usually heat a bottle in a few minutes, and some are designed to warm milk more evenly.
- Choose warm water if you want the simplest low-cost option and don’t mind waiting a bit longer. A bowl or cup of warm water is free and can work well, though it is usually slower and you’ll need to watch the temperature.
If you only warm bottles occasionally, warm water is often enough. If you expect to do this many times a day, a bottle warmer may save time and hassle.
Avoid microwaving baby bottles, since it can heat unevenly and create hot spots. Whatever method you use, test the milk on the inside of your wrist before feeding.
