QUESTION
Should I buy a tablet just for reading comics and PDFs?
Yes — if comics and PDFs are the main thing you want to read, a tablet is usually the better buy.
For that use case, a standard color tablet in roughly the 10–11 inch range is often the best fit. It gives you:
- Better comic reading: color screens make comics look much closer to the original art.
- Easier PDF handling: zooming, panning, and annotating fixed-layout PDFs is usually smoother on a regular tablet.
- Better app support: you can use comic apps and strong PDF readers/annotators.
An e-ink device is still great if your priority is mostly black-and-white reading, long battery life, or outdoor reading in bright sunlight — but for comics especially, it’s usually a compromise.
If you only read a few comics or PDFs occasionally, a tablet may be more than you need. But if this is a regular hobby, it’s a solid purchase.
One caveat: if you plan to read late at night, any bright backlit screen can feel less comfortable than e-ink for some people, so consider using night mode or lower brightness.
