Most old VHS tapes are close to junk value, but a small subset can be worth real money.

In general, common opened tapes usually sell for only a few dollars or less, especially at garage sales or thrift stores. The tapes that sometimes have value are usually:

  1. Obscure cult horror, exploitation, or sci-fi titles — especially movies that are hard to find in other formats or have a collector following.
  2. Factory-sealed, early-release mainstream titles — some sealed first editions can attract collectors.
  3. Niche collector categories — like wrestling, martial arts, skate videos, or other specialty releases.

The biggest factor is usually rarity and condition. A tape that looks ordinary may still be valuable if it’s a hard-to-find release, sealed, or tied to a specific collector market.

As for Disney "Black Diamond" tapes, they are usually not valuable just because of the logo. Some copies can sell for more than ordinary tapes, but they generally do not automatically command huge prices.

A good rule of thumb: check sold listings on eBay, not just asking prices, because active listings often overstate what people will actually pay.
