Usually, selling old Digimon cards raw is the better choice.

The vintage Digimon market is fairly niche compared with Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh!, so most old Digimon cards do not gain enough extra value from grading to justify the cost. For the vast majority of old cards, raw sale is the simplest and best option.

Rule of thumb

  • Sell raw if the card is common, lightly played, or only modestly valuable.
  • Consider grading only if it’s a highly sought-after card or promo, especially one that looks pack-fresh with strong centering, clean surfaces, and minimal edge wear.

When raw is better

  • Commons, uncommons, and most lower-value holos
  • Cards with visible whitening, scratches, dents, or off-centering
  • Bulk collections where speed matters more than maximizing every dollar
  • Cards that would likely land around a PSA/BGS/CGC 7 or 8, since those grades often do not sell for enough above raw to cover grading and shipping

When grading can make sense

  • Top chase cards and fan-favorite Digimon such as Omnimon/Omegamon, Beelzemon, WarGreymon, and Gallantmon/Dukemon
  • Rare promos, limited releases, or especially scarce vintage cards
  • Cards with a realistic chance at a high grade, especially if they are visually exceptional

Practical advice

If the card’s raw value is not meaningfully higher than the grading fee plus shipping, don’t grade it. In many cases, a card needs a strong shot at a top grade to justify grading costs.

If you want the quickest cash-out, sell raw. If you have a premium Digimon card in near-mint or better condition, grading may improve the final sale price.

As always, exact market prices can change, so it’s worth checking recent sold listings for the specific card before deciding.
