Usually: many cheap Amazon kitchen gadgets are a waste if they solve a tiny problem, duplicate a knife/pan/spoon, have lots of plastic parts, or are hard to clean. But cheap basics can be excellent buys if they’re simple, durable, and used often.

A good rule: buy cheap for simple tools, avoid cheap for tools with motors, blades, hinges, seals, coatings, or anything touching heat.

Worth buying cheap: silicone spatulas, bench scrapers, peelers, measuring spoons/cups, stainless tongs, sheet-pan racks, mixing bowls, basic whisks, jar openers, funnels, and small strainers.

Often a waste: avocado slicers, banana slicers, single-use choppers, novelty egg tools, plastic mandolines, cheap garlic presses, flimsy can openers, mini waffle/egg gadgets you’ll store more than use, and off-brand electric gadgets.

Before buying, ask: Will I use this weekly? Is it easier to clean than the task itself? Could a knife or spoon do the same job? Does it have replaceable/washable parts? Are bad reviews about breakage, rust, coating peeling, weak motors, or hard cleaning? If yes, skip it.
