Should I buy Apple TV 4K or Roku Ultra for older parents?

For most older parents, the Roku Ultra is usually the simpler pick. Roku’s interface is straightforward, the remote has clear tactile buttons, and it includes a remote-finder feature that can make everyday use less frustrating.

The Apple TV 4K is the better choice if your parents already use iPhones or iPads. It fits especially well in Apple’s ecosystem, and it can make typing passwords or searching easier with an iPhone. It’s also the more premium box overall, with strong performance and options like Ethernet.

A small caution on the Apple remote: some people find the touch surface on the Siri Remote easier to overshoot than a button-based remote, though Apple does offer settings that can make it behave more like a click-only remote.

If I had to choose one for most older parents, I’d lean Roku Ultra for simplicity and familiarity. If they’re already comfortable with Apple devices, Apple TV 4K is the nicer overall system.
